Why Miss M? : A note from CC

Why Miss M? Why did I choose to do a page as a tribute to the Divine Miss M? There are many reasons, too many to put down on here, but there are a few things I do want to include on this page.

I was tired of looking for information online and finding "dead" links, pages that don't exist anymore, mis-information, you know what I mean, so I decided to use my love of web page building to put up a page that I hope will be great one, and show some of my admiration for this wonderful entertainer.

I haven't had the luck of meeting Ms. Midler, though I have attended her "Experience the Divine" and the "Divine Miss Millenium" shows in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. But obviously my interest in her predates that. My first real memory of Bette had to be when "Down and Out" came out on vhs, I remember watching it with a bunch of friends, we couldn't have been more then 11 or 12, but I remember there being something about "Barbara Whiteman" or at least the actress playing her that captivated me. Her laughter, her smile, her facial expressions.

Since then my respect for her as increased and when I think about it, there is not one single emotion that can't be felt from one of her movies, or albums. No matter what I'm feeling or going through in my life, there is something to watch or listen to go along with it.

The movie that means the most to me, has to be "Beaches," the quintessential movie about friendship. Some friends come and go but there is always one, maybe two if you are very lucky, that you're stuck with for life. That one friend that no matter how long it's been since you've last been together, or spoken, is always there and the friendship is as strong as ever. Beaches made me appreciate friendship more then I had before. It made me wake up and realize how lucky I was. I used to watch it every other weekend with a good friend of mine, and some people asked if it got boring, or if it wasn't too draining to see it so many times. But, even today that movie makes me feel warm and content. I remember friends that have come and gone. Watching that movie is like curling upon the couch with an old friend to pass the evening away.

After surfing to so many fan sites, and reading touching stories of personal encounters with Ms. Midler I started thinking about what I might say if I ever got the chance...

If I did get the opportunity to meet her face to face, I think I'd say Thank You.
Thank you for making a medium for so many people to come together.. a medium through which we can channel and express our emotions which otherwise may stayed bottled up.
I would thank her for being appreciative of her fans, for caring about them, and for being willing to take the time to interact with them.
I think I would also express my thanks that she is willing to go on tour to let the fans experience the joys of her show, and more importantly that she does come up to Canada showing that she realizes and acknowledges that not all her fans are in the United States.

Well, there's my piece. A little bit from me. I was asked if I'd made this site in hopes the Divine Miss M would stop by. The answer is that no, I made it as a source of information, a place to express my respect for her and her career, and if she did happen to find time to click a link into here, then at least I've said on this page what I would want her to see.
And I have also not included anything that I think would intrude into her personal space (I hope!). There are no home addresses, no "hollywood-esque" tabloid type gossip having to do with her private life and to the best of my knowledge none of the images I've used came from one of those tabloid papers.
